The Way of the Moon

My husband looked at me quite oddly the other night when I commented on his remark.

“I have been so tired the last couple of days”
“It’s because we have a waning moon” I said.

The moon has a great effect of our energy levels. When the moon is full, we and everything around us is charged and energised. When the moon is waning, we loose energy and become tired. With our busy life styles, it is hard for us to stop and have a look at what is going on in nature. However, if you can get your body to correspond a little with the energies of the moon, you may feel a lot better
for part of its cycle.

When the moon is full, take this opportunity to get those extra little tasks done. When the moon is waning, slow down a little and cut down on non-essential jobs.

Wiccans work with the moon cycle because of the changing energies created by the different moon phases. The phases of the moon are traditionally symbolic with casting spells. The main phases of the moon cycle and its corresponding traditional magical purposes are as follows:

The Waxing Moon: Seen as the Maiden aspect of the Goddess, the crescent grows from a right hand arc into a full moon. This corresponds to spells in regards to increase or attract good things. The more the moon increases in size, the more powerful its energies become to attract abundance.
The Waning Moon: Seen as the Crone aspect of the Goddess, the crescent shrinks from the right hand side into an arc on the left. This corresponds to spells in regards of banishment and decreasing influence. The more it decreases, the more the potency decreases,
The New/Dark Moon: This is when the moon in entirely covered by the Earth’s Shadow and this phase is good for beginning new projects and enhancing psychic protection.
Full Moon: Seen as the mother aspect of the Goddess, full moons are particularly powerful in themselves and can be celebrated in its own rituals. The extra energy from the moon can be added to spells. This period only lasts for 24 hours – But you can add or subtract a day on either side.
